#Will #credit #karma #affect #credit #score Will credit karma affect credit score REMMONT.COM Will Using Credit Karma Hurt Your Credit Score? One of the questions people often have when using free credit score sites like Credit Karma, Credit Sesame and Quizzle is whether using them will ultimately hurt their credit scores. This question usually arises because they hear somewhere that checking your credit score too many times can lower your credit score. While this is true, it fails to take into account the difference between a “hard inquiry” and a “soft inquiry” when your credit score is checked. When you ...

In the era of Agile, organizations are increasingly moving their IT service management teams toward a DevOps world. There are significant challenges to transforming ITSM to DevOps, but one of the most significant is goal setting. In today’s face-paced business environment, it’s important to establish the parameters for measuring success and determine objectives that meet business needs.

Most experts recommend setting “realistic” or “achievable,” but try setting some crazy ones. While you might not achieve them, lofty goals create a culture where people feel safe to fail and understand that experimentation is essential to moving forward. After all, if you shoot for the moon and fail, you’re still among the stars.

The importance of experimenting and risking failure
One of the best examples of risking failure to become great is Google. Before this search engine giant came on the scene, internet surfers relied on applications such as Ask Jeeves, Excite, and Lycos to find what they wanted on the web. Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page had a vision of better search results via machine learning and algorithms, but their early ideas were taking a long time to come to fruition. They almost gave up, but they reportedly declined a deal for a guaranteed million dollars and pursued their dream instead. Today, Google dwarfs all competitors. It purchased a risky, scrappy little company called YouTube in 2006, and the rest is history.

Although Google may not have set out to dominate the search engine and online video worlds, they certainly weren’t settling for mediocrity. The ideals of aiming high and achieving beyond expectations hold true for DevOps teams as well.

Setting lofty DevOp goals
Goal setting is more than placing milestones and checking off accomplishments. High-reaching goals can be an extremely powerful motivator with significant impact on the entire organization. As motivational speaker Zig Ziglar put it, “A goal properly set is halfway reached.”

Download the white paper, Seven Crazy Goals to Start You On Your ITSM Journey to DevOps

The common wisdom is to set goals that have the highest chances of being accomplished. After all, most people are adverse to wasting their time on tasks that only lead to failure. In truth, studies have found that setting “unrealistically” high goals actually raises the bar, increasing performance to expectation levels. Lofty goals also encourage team members to draw on their creativity, bringing more innovative results.

For DevOps teams, big goals can mean better collaboration between teams, departments and stakeholders, optimizing planning and delivery of IT projects. In short, setting higher aims can:

Reduce new release failure rates

Improve the frequency of deployments

Shorten mean time to recovery

Decrease time to market

These benefits go beyond DevOps, impacting sales, user experience, and financial outcomes. DevOps teams can lead the charge to success that can’t possibly be achieved with ordinary goals.

DevOps on demand
The entire DevOps premise rests on transforming companies into agile, adaptable organizations that can keep pace in today’s ever-changing business IT environment. In ITSM team settings, releases are often discussed in terms of weeks. DevOps allows teams to work on a time scale of days, but what if companies set goals in hours?

Don’t constrain your DevOps teams

Focusing on continuous improvement and delivery is key here, but it’s not without risks. Buggy code and incompatibilities abound, but there are ways to decrease these pitfalls. First, break down any barriers or information silos that can hinder communication between various IT teams, as well as those that exist between the marketing, finance, and C-level departments. Stakeholders across the organization need to be accessible to ensure that everyone is on the same page and that they have mitigated all known risks for new releases.

Automation is another important aspect. Being able to “set it and forget it” means DevOps teams can move on from each project quickly without worrying about deployment. This includes effective performance management tools that provide proactive alerts with detailed assessments of current or potential problems, allowing DevOps teams to discern exactly what the issue is and how to fix it — fast.

Take big chances
Continuous improvement is an admirable goal, but complete transformations are better. Ultimately, the biggest risk of setting middling goals is a loss of potential. It’s imperative that DevOps teams take big chances, learn from their failures as well as their successes, and optimize risk management with the requisite tools. Organizations need to build an environment where DevOps are keen on experimentation, aren’t afraid to fail, and thrive on a cycle of constant adaptation.

There is a place for realism, of course, but not in the sense of setting lower goals. Instead, be realistic about building the teams, processes, culture, and the technology infrastructures that can be conducive to success.

Rob England, an instructor of ITSM and DevOps practices and the IT Skeptic, recommends setting goal that might seem crazy to help ITSM organizations move into a DevOps world. You can read all seven on our website.

A high-level overview can be summarized as follows:

Be willing to fail

Be accountable

Set stretch goals

Can Azure Dev/Test Pricing Save You Money?

Azure Dev/Test pricing is an option that Azure offers to give developers access to the tools that are necessary to support ongoing development and testing in Microsoft Azure services. This, hopefully, should give the user more control of their applications and environments reducing waste.

Azure Dev/Test Pricing Options

With Azure Dev/Test pricing, three different options are available to users ? Individual, Teams (Enterprise Agreement Customers), and another Teams option for those customers that don?t fall under the enterprise agreement. These pricing options are offered solely to active Visual Studio subscribers. We?ll dig in a little deeper to the pricing options and the benefits associated with each one.

Option 1: Individuals

The individual option is meant to let users explore and get familiar with Azure?s services. As you can imagine, pricing for individuals is a little different than team pricing. Individuals are given the pricing option of monthly Azure credits for those who are subscribed to Visual Studio. If this pricing option is chosen, the individual is given a separate Azure subscription with a monthly credit balance ranging from $50?150.

You get to decide how you use your monthly credit. There are several Azure services that you can put the credit towards. The software included in your Visual Studio subscription can be used on Azure VMs for no additional charges, you pay a reduced rate for the VMs that you run.

These monthly credits are ideal for personal workloads, but other options are more optimal for team workloads.

Option 2: Teams ? Enterprise Agreement Customers

Teams that have an Enterprise Agreement in place have access to low Dev/Test rates for multiple subscriptions. The funds that are on the customer?s Enterprise Agreement will be used ? there is no separate payment. A discount is given to customers at this level ? all Windows and Windows Server, Virtual Machines, Cloud Services, and more are discounted off normal Enterprise Agreement rates.

Unlike the option for Individuals, the team?s option for enterprise agreement customers allow end-users to access the application to provide feedback and to run tests ? only Visual Studio subscribers can actually use the Azure resources running in this subscription.

Option 3: Teams ? All Other Customers

If a user isn?t an enterprise agreement customer but wants to use Azure for their teams, they would fall under this category. This rate offers a pay-as-you-goDev/Test pricing option. This pricing option is very appealing because it allows users to quickly get their teams up and running with dev/test environments. Users are only allowed to use these environments for development and testing.

This is a more flexible and inclusive option, it allows for multiple team members to interact with the resources, it?s not limited to just the account owners.

Can Azure Dev/Test Save You Money?

All three options allow users to use the software that is included in their Visual Studio subscription for dev/testing. For VMs being run in environments in all three of these options, users are given a discounted price that is based on a Linux VM rate.

Microsoft Azure users that are looking to save money on their cloud costs may want to use one of these options. These pricing options come with the benefit of no additional Microsoft software charges on Azure Virtual Machines and exclusive dev/test rates on other Azure services.

September 27, 2016 by Rene van Osnabrugge 1 Comment

This week I was working on a script, running in my VSTS release pipeline that executed Pester tests on a remote machine. Running Pester tests on the VSTS Build and Release Agent work fine with one the awesome tasks on the Visual Studio Marketplace, but this was about running the tests remotely AND getting the output back in to the pipeline top publish the results.

I did some investigation for different scenarios. When running on a VM in Azure, you can create a networkshare to the files by using the FQDN of the azure machine. something like

\\machinename.westeurope.cloudapp.azure.com. But this only works when you have your SMB port (445) open on the network.

An alternative to this, is to use the WINRM protocol to copy files back to the agent. When you use Powershell 5 you can use the Copy-Item cmdlet and use the -ToSession or -FromSession to copy files

IN my case I created a small script that takes a file on the remote machine and the targetpath on the agent machine as parameter and executes the script.

When you put this in a Powershell task in your VSTS pipeline it works great !

Running Pester tests on remote machine

The copying part is what I wanted to talk about but I can imagine that you are also interested in the running pester tests part. For that I use two VSTS build tasks

AzureFileCopy and Powershell in target machines

IN the AzureFileCopy I copy the files to a location on the remote machine (c:\tmp)

In the Powershell on Target machine I run a custom Powershell script, to install the pester module and invoke the test. Because the Powershell on Target machine task runs from a different location than what you specify in the deployment param (it does some magic), you need to keep in mind that the working folder is different and some files that you reference are not relative to the script anymore. I created a small invoker.ps1 script that takes some parameters as input.

When you run this, and copy the outputfile to the agent, you can run the Publish Test Results task and you are all set !

Devops repository

[youtube]

Devops repository World news Devops repository

Set up a repository

A Git repository, or repo, is a folder that youРІ??ve told Git to help you trackР’ file changes in. You can have any number of repos on your computer, each stored in their own folder. Each Git repo on your system is independent, so changes saved in one Git repo donРІ??t affect the contents of another.

A Git repo contains every version of every file saved in the repo. This is different than other version control systems that storeР’ only the differences between files. Git stores the file versions in a hidden .git folder alongside other information it needs to manage your code. Git saves these files very efficiently, so having a large number of versions doesnРІ??t mean that it uses a lot of disk space. Storing each version of your files helps Git merge code better and makes working with multiple versions of your code quick and easy.

You work with Git through commands issued while working in your local repo on your computer. Even when youРІ??re sharing code or getting updates from your team, itРІ??s done from commands that update your local repo. This local-focused design is what makes Git a distributed version control system. Every repo is self-contained, and the owner of the repo is responsible for keeping it up to date with the changes from others.

Most teams will use a central repo hosted on a server everyone can access to coordinate their changes. Р’ The central repo is usually hosted in a source control management solution, like Team Foundation Server or Azure DevOps, that adds features that make working together easier.

Create a new Git repo

You have two options to create a Git repo-you can create a repo from the code in a folder on your computer, or you can clone the contents of an existing repo. Deciding which option you need is straightforward-if youРІ??re working with code thatРІ??s just on your own computer, create a local repo using the code in that folder. Most of the time youРІ??re working with code already shared in a Git repo, so cloning the existing repo to your computer is the way to go.

From existing code

Use the git init command to create a new repo from an existing folder on your computer. From the command line, navigate to the rootР’ folder containing your code and run

to create the repo. YouРІ??ll then need to add any files in the folder to your first commit with the following commands:

> git commit -m "Initial commit"

From a remote repository

Use the git clone command to copy the contents of an existing repo to a folder on your computer. From the command line, navigate to the folder you want to contain the clonedР’ repo, then run:

> git clone https://fabrikam.visualstudio.com/DefaultCollection/Fabrikam/_git/FabrikamProject

Pass in the actual URL to the existing repo instead of the placeholder URL above. This URL, called the clone URL, points to a server where your team coordinates changes. You can get this URL from your team, or from the clone button on the web where you are browsing of the repo.

You donРІ??t need to add files or create an initial commit when you clone a repo since you copied all of the files and history of the existing repo during the clone.

My use case is when ever a work item state updated(Active --> Resolved/Active __> Closed/) then build needs to trigger automatically based on this work item state update event..

Could you please help on this

@Naidul
Service Hooks are mostly used for external services, but it might work in this scenario with a WebHook (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/service-hooks/services/webhooks?view=azure-devops)

I see in your attached doc that the URL is incorrect, you'll want to fill in the fields for <organization>and <project>with the name of your Azure DevOps org and project

You'll also need to somehow specify the definition to queue the build, this goes in the request body but that won't be in the Service Hook event. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/re...e?view=azure-devops-rest-5.0#request-body

You could also try setting up a server or function to receive these events and then queue a build from them. That way you'll be able to specify all the necessary information to queue the build.

Let?s assume we have an existing project, with its own git repository and some very complex build and release definitions.
Let?s assume that you want to create a service able to recreate the exact copy of this structure; it is not unlikely that you could have to deal with git repository conflict, custom extensions not being loaded or service endpoints not existing in the new project. How to deal with these issues and properly achieve our goal?

Before starting, you may be thinking: ?why do I have to do this??

Well, this approach could be powerful in scenarios where you, as DevOps team, may want to export a self-provision-able template for spreading build/release best practices in your work environment.
In the next paragraphs you will learn how to migrate myOldProject to myNewProject, i.e.:

Create a new Azure DevOps/VSTS project

Create ?gitexternal? and ?azurerm? Service Endpoints

Import an existing Azure DevOps git repository

Export, parametrize, import a build definition

Export, parametrize, import a release definition

Azure DevOps project creation

First of all, you will need to create a new Azure DevOps Project.
The request body will contain a name, a description but above all the processTemplate you want to use

AGILE = ?adcc42ab-9882-485e-a3ed-7678f01f66bc?
SCRUM = ?6b724908-ef14-45cf-84f8-768b5384da45?
CMMI = ?27450541-8e31-4150-9947-dc59f998fc01?

Create ?gitexternal? and ?azurerm? service endpoints

You will be importing the existing git repository of myOldProject, and the build/release pipelines will need access to some Azure Resources like Azure Container Registry (docker push) or Azure Kubernetes Service (helm install).

For this reason, in this example, you will need to create two service endpoints:

A ?gitexternal? service endpoint, with an authentication scheme ?UsernamePassword? (if you want to use a Personal Access Token)

A ?azurerm? service endpoint, with an authentication scheme ?ServicePrincipal? (using appId and password from a ServicePrincipal with an appropriate role in your Azure Active Directory)

Import an existing Azure DevOps git repository

You can submit a POST request to start the async operation of importing the existing git repository.

As it is an async operation, it is very useful to check the progress of the import process. For sure, you will want to move on when the ?status? property is equal to ?completed?:

Export/import a build definition

This is actually everything you need to get and export a build definition, simple right?

By the way, what you just exported, it contains a lot of ?project/organization/user?-specific information that you have to delete/modify for a template creation.

Platforms Supported by Selenium

Firefox

GeckoDriver is implemented and supported by Mozilla, refer to their documentation for supported versions.

Internet Explorer

Only version 11 is supported, and it requires additional configuration.

Safari

SafariDriver is supported directly by Apple, for more information, check their documentation

Opera

OperaDriver is supported by Opera Software, refer to their documentation for supported versions.

Chrome

ChromeDriver is supported by the Chromium project, please refer to their documentation for any compatibility information

Microsoft is implementing and maintaining the Microsoft Edge WebDriver, please refer to their documentation for any compatibility information

Microsoft Windows

Most versions of MS Windows that are currently still supported by Microsoft should work with Selenium. Although we use the latest MS Windows to troubleshoot things, it does not mean Selenium won't attempt to support different versions of Windows. This only means we don't continually run tests on other particular version of Windows.

macOS

We currently do not use any version of macOS in our automated tests against the selenium project. However most developers on the project are using a recent version of macOS and we'll continue to support the current stable release and often the previous release.

Linux

We test mainly on Ubuntu, but other variations of Linux should also work where the browser manufacturers support them.

Source Code

You can also find a list of the Selenium source code at our GitHub repository here.

Eduard Kabrinskiy - Tfs git pull request - Рдуард Кабринский

Tfs git pull request

[youtube]

Tfs git pull request News highlights today Tfs git pull request

Get feedback with pull requests

Azure Repos | Azure DevOps Server 2020 | Azure DevOps Server 2019 | TFS 2018 | TFS 2017 | TFS 2015 | VS 2017 | VS 2015

Pull requests combine the review and merge of your code into a single collaborative process. Once you're done fixing a bug or new feature in a branch, create a new pull request. Add the members of the team to the pull request so they can review and vote on your changes.

Azure Repos has a rich pull request experience that's easy to use and scales to your needs. Use pull requests to review works in progress and get early feedback on changes. There's no commitment to merge the changes as the owner can abandon the pull request at any time.

Get your code reviewed

The code review done in a pull request isn't just to find obvious bugs. That's what your tests are for. A good code review catches less obvious problems that could lead to costly issues later. Code reviews help protect your team from bad merges and broken builds that sap your team's productivity. The review catches these problems before the merge, protecting your important branches from unwanted changes.

Cross-pollinate expertise and spread problem solving strategies by using a wide range of reviewers in your code reviews. Diffusing skills and knowledge makes your team stronger and more resilient.

Give great feedback

High quality reviews start with high quality feedback. The keys to great feedback in a pull request are:

Have the right people review the pull request

Make sure that reviewers know what the code does

Give actionable, constructive feedback

Reply to comments in a timely manner

When assigning reviewers to your pull request, make sure you select the right set of reviewers. You want reviewers that will know how your code works, but try to also include developers working in other areas so they can share their ideas. Provide a clear description of your changes and provide a build of your code that has your fix or feature running in it.

Reviewers should make an effort to provide feedback on changes they don't agree with. Identify the issue and give a specific suggestions on what you would do differently. This feedback has clear intent and is easy for the owner of the pull request to understand. The pull request owner should reply to the comments, accepting the suggestion or explaining why the suggested change isn't ideal. Sometimes a suggestion is good, but the changes are outside the scope of the pull request. Take these suggestions and create new work items and feature branches separate from the pull request to make those changes.

Protect branches with policies

There are a few critical branches in your repo that the team relies on always being in good shape, such as your master branch. Require pull requests to make any changes on these branches. Developers pushing changes directly to the protected branches will have their pushes rejected.

Add additional conditions to your pull requests to enforce a higher level of code quality in your key branches. A clean build of the merged code and approval from multiple reviewers are some extra requirements you can set to protect your key branches.

Extend pull request workflows with pull request status

Pull requests and branch policies enable teams to enforce many best practices related to reviewing code and running automated builds, but many teams have additional requirements and validations to perform on code. To cover these individual and custom needs, Azure Repos offers pull request statuses. Pull request statuses integrate into the PR workflow and allow external services to programmatically sign off on a code change by associating simple success/failure type information with a pull request.

Setting default repository permissions on your Azure DevOps Organization

There is no UI to set the security at the Organization level. This is fine if you're happy with the default security settings in Azure DevOps, but if you want certain settings to apply to all projects, then it's sometimes useful to set the permissions at the Organization level.

In Azure Repos there are a lot of places where you can set security:

At the Branch level (develop, master)

At the Branches level (default for all branches)

At the Tag level

At the Tags level (default for all tags)

At the Repository level (PartsUnlimited-GDBC)

At the Git Repositories level (for all repositories in a project)

Permissions can be managed at each level in the tree. Many permissions will cascade down.

But there is no UI to set the security at the Organization level. This is fine if you're happy with the default security settings in Azure DevOps, but if you want certain settings to apply to all projects (also newly created projects), then it's sometimes useful to set the permissions at the Organization level.

For the Global DevOps Bootcamp we have a few challenges that require changes to be committed to Git through an automated process in order to cause a disruption.

To ensure the changes are able to bypass any branch policies and protected branches, we needed to make sure the service account that makes the change is able to bypass policies.

If you've dug into the security innards of Azure DevOps in the past, you'll have found out that certain permissions are granted to persons or groups and are linked to a token. This token is usually built up out of a root object and a bunch of GUIDs. For example, this is the token for a specific Git Repository:

Scope: specific repository.

Simplest way I know of to find these details, is to capture the web request made when a permission is changed:

You can use the Web Developer tools in your favorite browser to find the token you need.

Once you understand this, it's easy to find the token for the "All Repositories in a Team Project" token. Just take off the Git Repository GUID at the end:

Scope: all repositories in a project.

And, using the same reasoning, to get to the token for "All repositories in the Project Collection/Organization" token. Just take off the Team Project GUID at the end:

Scope: all repositories in an azure DevOps Organization or Azure DevOps Server Project Collection

And now that we have this token, we can use tfssecurity to set Organization level git permissions:

And, as you can see below, this trick actually works :).

Before: Bypass policies are not set at the Team Project level. After: Bypass policies are inherited from the Organization level.

You can use the same technique to secure branches. The token of a branch uses the token of the Repository as a basis and adds the branch to that. The token for permissions is a strange numeric branch identifier at first look, but upon closer inspection it turns out to be a hex representation of the branch name:

Transform branch name to token (Thanks Pickle Rick!).

This was very useful for the Global DevOps Bootcamp. Instead of having to customize the permissions for 3000 Team Projects, we could now simply set this permission in the 7 organizations that were setup for the event.

Note: You can use the REST API to manage security as well, but it requires a little more work to look up the correct identifiers for the Group or User, the Namespace Identifier and more. While generally more complete, the REST API is even harder to understand.

Instead of tfssecurity you can now also use az devops permissions to set permissions. You still need most of the intricate knowledge of the tokens:

Use az devops as a modern alternative to tfssecurity
